Uknown media type in type 'all/all'

(Gor) #1

I’ve been having this error every single time after system upgrade
(8/9) Updating the MIME type database…
Unknown media type in type ‘all/all’
Unknown media type in type ‘all/allfiles’

Everything seems to work fine, but before something breaks, i’d like to fix it.
After last Plasma update 5.14.2, problem still here.

Tried moving the files in question
mv /usr/share/mime/all/all.xml ~
mv /usr/share/mime/all/allfiles.xml ~
and then
sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime

with same error result

Tried also the following but still error persist

pacman -Qqo /usr/share/mime | sudo pacman -S -

Put “Uknown media type in type ‘all/all’” in google search and it give numerous reasons.

This message is basically just a warning, that the mime type all/all doesn’t exist.

I have this “error” since ages (literally) and it doesn’t do any harm.

For anyone having same issue, this is what fixed it for me…
with problem issuing command
sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
returned:
Unknown media type in type ‘all/all’
Unknown media type in type ‘all/allfiles’

SOLUTION

sudo nano /usr/share/mime/packages/kde.xml

i commented xml block starting on line 1789 until line 1905

BEFORE:
<!-- all/ fake mime types -->
 <mime-type type="all/all">
....
....
  </mime-type>
  <mime-type type="all/allfiles">
....
....
  </mime-type>

AFTER:
<!-- all/ fake mime types
 <mime-type type="all/all">
....
....
  </mime-type>
  <mime-type type="all/allfiles">
....
....
  </mime-type>
-->

now when issuing
sudo update-mime-database /usr/share/mime
no more “unknown media type …”

Thanks for your input.
